Anish Kapoor’s AcelorMittal Orbit has resembled a helter-skelter since the sculpture first went up in 2012, so it’s only fitting that it’s now been transformed into the world’s tallest tunnel slide. An ‘artwork within an artwork’, designed by artist Carsten Höller – who previously treated Londoners to headline-grabbing slides in the Tate Modern and on the Southbank – the slide sends riders corkscrewing down 178 metres on a 40-second journey to the ground, with 12 loops around the steel structure and a breath-snatching maximum speed of 15mph.
WHEN: Open from Friday 24th
VENUE: AcelorMittal Orbit, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Thornton Street, London E20

Restaurant of The Week
I’m a newly converted Bertie and Boo fan, so our restaurant of the week was an easy pick this week. Bertie and Boo’s coffee shop is based on the Northcote Road, stocking the most delicious treats for all ages. What’s more, Bertie & Boo’s interiors are inspired by the nearby historic Clapham Junction railway station.
There’s an extensive family menu, with a secure play area for children to use while you sit back and relax. There are lots of toys, a soft play area and games to entertain children of all ages, with a cool den area with the latest computer games for the big kids!
What I like most about Bertie & Boo is that there’s always a trained children’s entertainer to mind the kids, while you can enjoy a quiet meal in peace! Click here to check out their fab promo video.
